Education: Catholic high school, College SRSU football, undergrad in Psychology, masters in Psychology with clinical emphasis, extensive doctoral level course work in Behavioral Medicine at NCU.
Licenses: Licensed Child Care Administrator, TX since 1995, Licensed Professional Counselor since 2002, LPC-Supervisor since 2012, Certificate in Marijuana Addiction Counseling.
Experience: High Frontier since 1988 as instructor, supervisor, group leader, staff developer, program director, assistant director since 1996. Consulting for Social learning at Rancho Valmora, Hood County, Cramer Creek

Dale Parker

Dale Parker - MA, LPC - Assistant Administrator, Therapist
Origin: Jackson, Tennessee
Education: Undergraduate degree in Agri-Business from Sul Ross State University, Masters in Clinical Psychology- SRSU.
Licenses: Licensed Professional Counselor.
Experience: High Frontier since 1996 as Instructor, Group Leader, Staff Developer, Program Director at Rancho Valmora- 2006-2009.
Family: Married to Denise since 2003; 2 children- daughter, Jayden and son, Jace.

   

Becky Farrer - Principal

Education: B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from U.T.S.A., and two M.Ed. (one in Counseling and one in School Administration from Sul Ross State University), as well as postgraduate work in education. Educational certificates in elementary education, reading, special education, English as a Second Language, counseling, supervision, principalship, and superintendency. Becky also meets highly qualified status in English, mathematics, social studies, and gifted and talented education.
Experience: Becky has worked at High Frontier School since August 1997 and has been principal since August 2001. She has been in education since December 1991 working as a classroom teacher, counselor, programs and assessment.

Dr Alec Knight

Dr. Alec Knight - Science
Education: B.S., Biological Sciences, The University of Texas at El Paso; M.S., Biology, Sul Ross State University; Ph.D., Biological Sciences, Texas Tech University
Experience: Dr. Knight has taught science at the high school and university undergraduate and graduate levels. He has conducted original research resulting in 24 papers published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. His work has been featured in popular press including The New York Times, Discover Magazine, Science News, and many others. Dr. Knight has taught science at The High Frontier School since 2006.


Britt Pauls

Merrill "Britt" Pauls - History
Origin: Galveston, Texas
Education: Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies with emphasis on History; Masters degree in History with a minor in Education
from Sul Ross State University.  He is certified in Social Studies.
Experience: Britt worked as a merchant seaman for 26 years before moving to Alpine, Texas where he attended Sul Ross State University. Britt taught and substituted in the local school systems before he came to work at The High Frontier as a milieu instructor in January 2015. In August, he transitioned to a teaching position – History teacher.

Lamar Rodriguez - EnglishLamar Rodriguez - English
Origin: Rio Grande City, Texas
Education: Attended Sul Ross State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 2014. Lamar is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Education.
Experience: Lamar started working at The High Frontier as a Milieu Instructor in 2014 for the Waco and Tejas groups before transitioning to a teaching position in February of 2016.

Bob Ward - MathRobert Ward - Math
Education: Bachelor of Science in Geology (1981) from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and a Master of Science in Geology (1995) from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.
Experience: Twenty-five years as a geologist in the mineral industry. Instructional experience includes; employment as a geology instructor at Northern Illinois and Sul Ross State Universities; and as a substitute math and science teacher in the Midland, Texas School District.
  


 
CLINICAL

Dr. Richard DangelDr. Richard Dangel - Psychologist

Education: Dr Dangel holds advanced degrees from The University of Kansas and The University of Michigan and was a tenured full professor at The University of Texas at Arlington.
Experience: Dr. Dangel is a doctoral-level licensed child psychologist with more than 35 years clinical experience with teens and their families. Dr. Dangel’s publications include three books and dozens of scientific articles and he has delivered more than 1,500 papers and workshops around the world. In addition, Dr. Dangel serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse and has served on the National Research Advisory Boards of the YMCA of the USA and Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Town, and on the boards of numerous philanthropic organizations. He worked with Dr. Harry Vorrath, the founder of Positive Peer Culture and he has enjoyed working with the teens at High Frontier for more than 25 years.

Silvanna Milan

Silvanna Milan, LMSW - Clinical Director
Origin: Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She enjoys the Bay Area but is always ready to return to the beautiful Big Bend country.
Education: B.A. in Social Work and Masters in Social Work (Administration concentration) from San Jose State University in California.
Licenses: Licensed Master Social Worker through the State of Texas.
Experience: Came to The High Frontier in October of 1988 and stayed. Has been Clinical Director and/or Treatment Director since the beginning. Throughout the years she has filled various roles on campus - and enjoyed each one. Works closely with group leaders, therapists, psychiatrist, psychologist, nurse, milieu instructors, supervisors, Administration, principal and most of all the students.
Family: Lives in Alpine with her husband and extended family.

Jess CastilloJeffrey Castillo - Group Leader
Education: Jeff started working at The High Frontier as a Milieu Instructor in January of 2000 while attending Sul Ross State University.
Experience: After several years Jeff was promoted to Tiqua Group Leader and Positive Peer Culture behavioral intervention trainer. Jeff enjoys working with families in teaching the responsibility-based model of PPC. As a certified trainer of Managing Aggressive Behavior (M.A.B.), Jeff also works within the milieu teaching and training the premises/guidelines of crisis intervention. Over the years Jeff has also had the opportunity to manage/coach the High Frontier basketball team, which competes with several small local schools.
Family: Jeff lives in Alpine with his wife and three children.
Interests: Sports, classic cars, and old-fashioned family time.

 

Jim CostabileJim Costabile - Group Leader
Origin: San Antonio, TX
Education: Attended school at Texas State, Sul Ross University. Biology was the direction but herpetology was his focus. He worked in the field for many years. During this time he assisted with herpetological studies later to be published in the “Field Guide to Texas Snakes” and a few years later in a second edition, “Field Guide to Snakes of the Central and Southern Regions of the United States.” He moved to Alpine, TX in 1994 to continue his studies at Sul Ross State University.
Experience: In 1997 he took a job at HF starting as a night staff member. He transitioned to the instructor position working in the dormitory directly with students for several years. He was promoted to the shift supervisory position for another several years then again promoted into the group leader position. During this time he attended social service workshops to receive certification as an NRC Trainer. He now holds the positions as a Group leader for the Tejas and challenge groups, Trainer, Grievance Committee chair and during summers will incorporate his science background to teach the student population about the flora and fauna.
Family: Married with two daughters

 

Billy JohnsonBilly Johnson - Staff Developer/Trainer

Education: High School Graduate, worked for the State of New Mexico, attained the title of Staff Developer Specialist IIIa. Numerous certifications and life saving commendations.

Experience: Billy came to High Frontier in 1999 with a background in Law Enforcement, EMS, and Emergency Management. He started working directly with students in the dormitories and remained in that position for serveral years. He also directed the student choir at Christmas. He was then promoted to Group Leader for a girl’s group, then for two boy’s groups. He loves working with the families and the students. Family concerns took him away from HF for a short period.  He subsequently returned as the Staff Developer/Trainer and is excited about beginning his 17th year.
Family: Married with 4 grandchilden

Hobbies: Playing guitar, oil painting/drawing, and building furniture.
 

Ronnie Ontiveroz Ronnie Ontiveroz, B.A. - Group Leader
Origin: Marfa, Texas
Education: Graduated from Marfa High School; attended West Texas A&M University in Canyon Texas and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Sul Ross State University in Alpine Texas.
Experience: Ronnie began working for High Frontier in May of 1997 and has 18 years
experience of working with students and families. He worked as a Milieu Instructor with stints as staff developer, shift supervisor, and served on the grievance committee prior to his current role as a group leader for the Chizos and Choctaw groups. 
Family: Aaron (18), Derek (11), and daughter Madison (3).
Hobbies: In addition to attending his sons sporting events, he has a passion for golfing, working out, cooking, and attending Alpine Bucks football games.

 
Loren Rawlings

Loren Rawlings, M.S., L.P.C. - Therapist/Case Management for Waco and Cheyenne Groups, runs the horse program for all groups
Origin: Houston, Texas
Education: Undergrad degree (Bachelor of Arts in Psychology) from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi. Graduate degree (Master of Science) from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi double mastered in Marriage, Family, and Individual Counseling as well as Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Licenses: Licensed Profession Counselor- Intern - Group Leader
Experience: High Frontier since September 2008, practiced in Corpus Christi since May 2013

Wayne Wentworth

Wayne Wentworth, M.Ed - Therapist
Origin: Lincoln, Nebraska
Education: B.A. in History from UT Austin, 1981; Masters in Educational Psychology from UT Austin, 1991.

Licenses: Texas Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Texas Master Gardener
Experience: Team Therapist at High Frontier since 2011. Twenty years of private practice in Austin, Texas, working with individuals, families, couples and groups. Adjunct Professor at Austin Community College.
